Dr. May-I-Have-Another-Sir...?

It's not easy being me. Even on a good day I make life harder than it has to be. Then on bad days I don't get worked up enough. But every day I get in there and try. Learned that from another old friend.

Hey, I said I try. Thankfully, my girl loves me anyway.

Take chemistry, for instance. Our instructor, Dr. May, is a very nice man. A chemist, apparently, but a nice guy just the same. He has truly found the poetry (if there is any) in chemistry. Today he compared the plots of exothermic reaction with expensive v. cheap divorce. Sometimes the energey expended is totally worth it.

See what I mean about finding the poetry in chemistry?

Besides that, I didn't understand a word he said.

Best of the Blogs

Massive shout-outs to Tommy at Sticks of Fire and Rachel at Midnight Culmination, voted "Best of the Bay" in our little blogosphere by the Weekly Planet.

Tommy is famed for his band (you know, the Johnny G. Lyons Band), his informative Tampa blog, his wit and his compassion (and I've never met the man). Rachel is renowned for getting kicked out of Stetson for being such a maverick, reppin' the TPA, and her party-hearty helping of Tampa nightlife blogging.

You guys rock.

To The Web-Thief:

It took a while but we figured you out. You used my secondary e-mail address, posted to this website, to try and defraud a Wells Fargo customer.

You are now SO busted.

Open Mouth Insert Breast

So the partner got tickets to see La Nouba at Cirque de Soleil in Downtown Disney. Nice gift from a coworker, thanks Matt.

But I digress. We go to La Nouba--a totally cool and very awesome show, by the way, worth it even if you have to pay for tickets...losers. I buy juggling balls (another of my talents noteworthy for their uselessness) and a program before going in. Everything is fine.

It's when we leave that I commit my faux pas.

Partner and I are trailing out, wandering cow-like behind the leaving masses. We see a woman doing the same thing we'd just done: stay seated (with her baby) until heavy traffic passes. As we mount the steps leading past her and into the mezzanine, I open my large, unfortunate mouth.

"Awww, check it out, honey," I say brightly, "that kid has the best seat in the house." The woman smiles strangely and our grins fade as we see why when moving past.

She is breastfeeding.

"Best seat in the house."

Sheesh.

Looking For Home

Awww, I'm VERY sweet

 Me too! I'm sweet, too!

These gals showed up on the back 40 a couple weeks ago. They're back and skinnier. Looks like SOMEONE owns them as they wear matching collars. Apparently, the blonde is mom and the brindle is daughter. Both have VERY sweet dispositions (which is why we're also pretty sure someone must be looking for them).

It's Pasco county's policy not to adopt out pit bulls. We found this out when the animal control man came out. They get NO time on adoption alley--straight to the euthanasia room. Too much dog fighting here, according to the AC guy. They don't want to adopt out dogs that the grits will use for fighting or for breeding fighters. So we guess that nobody who loses a pit looks real hard because...well, duh.

We already have pitties and they are not inclined to stranger-dogs. These ladies need a home together or not.

Otherwise....the knacker man! (Basically, the glue factory, an old friend once informed me). Contact me at *thanks to web-thief, just comment, thanks*

Need We Say More?(via msnbc.com)

"The Washington Post reported on Friday that five of eight top FEMA officials had come to their jobs with virtually no experience in handling disasters. The agency's top three leaders, including Brown, had ties to Bush's 2000 presidential campaign or the White House advance operation."

Blogservation

Has anyone but me noticed how it's the American people who are taking the lead in recovery efforts? Sure the government is doing something (finally) but from the press I've seen it's the churches and charities and just plain folks of America who are doing the most.

Yay us.

Call For a National Fund

So we did it for families from firefighters' to stockbrokers'. We had a national 9/11 Fund.

The victims of Katrina--and I'm not gonna debate the "victim" vs. "refugee" arguments because, in the scheme of things, we are ALL refugees from something and Jesse Jackson is starting to really show himself a racist--need a fresh start, yeah?

They need money.

It's the reason these folks are in the situations they're in...lack of adequate funds.

Of course, it's also the reason this country is so materialistic. Everyone wants to emulate the lifestyles they see on television.

But enough of that.

A national trust. I have no idea how to start and am of the pretty firm opinion that if I'm thinking of it now someone smarter thought of it forever ago.

So let's support it if one comes up.

Quick Draw MacGeorge

Does anyone but me think GW jumped on his John Roberts elevation, (following the death of Supremes Chief, William Rehnquist), quicker than he took the Katrina disaster in hand?

  In Memory of Mike Eisenstadt

"TAMPA - Mike Eisenstadt, the longtime spirited host of the Sunday Simcha show on WMNF and a well-known activist in Tampa Bay's Jewish community, died Friday after a battle with lung cancer. He was 54.

Eisenstadt not only hosted the Sunday Simcha show, but he also led the Mike Eisenstadt Band in performances at bar mitzvahs and weddings all over west-central Florida and, for the last five years, was the director of the Jewish Community Relations Council for the Tampa JCC/Federation following 20 years of volunteer service.

"He was an incredible force in this community," said Cathy Gardner, an executive assistant at Tampa JCC/Federation (which stands for Jewish Community Center).

"Mike was full of life, and he has a presence and a breadth and depth in this community," she said. "In the Jewish community, I don't think there was anybody who didn't know Mike. And in the general community, he touched so many lives through his Israel advocacy and political activism."

With Debbi, his wife of 32 years, at his side, he led tours to Israel, she said.

"He loved the people and the culture and the music," she said.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Mark and Keith Eisenstadt; his mother, Dorothy Eisenstadt; a brother, Carl Eisenstadt; and his mother-in-law, Joyce Weissman.

Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Congregation Kol-Ami, 3919 Moran Road, Tampa. Rabbi Joel Wasser will officiate. Interment will follow at Gan Shalom Cemetery, County Line Road, Tampa.

Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Congregation Kol-Ami, LifePath Hospice, the Jewish National Fund or the Caring Bridge at www.caringbridge.org Arrangements are being handled by Segal Funeral Home Beth David Chapel."

Gassholes?

*Word at the Murphy Oil gas pumps this morning was that a certain, large Wesley Chapel auto dealership had all the tanks in the cars on its lot filled with gasoline.

*Overheard at the local Wal-Mart (regarding hurricane Katrina): "It's just God's way of population control."

Posted by: Likes2mtnbike at September 04, 2005 13:57 | link | comments

Um...

*Does anyone but me see a problem with evacuating hurricane victims from one danger zone right into another?

Hello? We are on alert until the end of November.

I'm thinking more North, eh?

*I don't agree with Kayne West or media reports that, basically, all the white people got out of town. Talk to a southerner, okay? New Orleans is predominantly black. That's why nearly all those faces you see are black. I saw white faces. Not nearly as many as black, it's true, but it's not about race, it's about poverty.

Attention Nursing Students

They are flying patients from Katrina to Tampa International Airport for treatment at local hospitals. Does anyone but me see the incredible opportunity to not only do good but gain critical clinical experience?

Talk to your university president or program director. Get your butts down to TGH or St. Joe's.

No mention of these folks in the online Tampa Tribune. No idea what the paper edition says.
